CENTRE FOR CORPORATE AND COMMERCIAL LAWS (CCCL)

Corporate and Commercial laws remain foundational for all business activities. In the ever-changing global market, commercial laws continue to evolve, improve and stimulate the everyday functioning of the business world. Commercial laws are quite versatile in that these can be studied as an integral part of commerce, economics, accountancy, management, human resource development, marketing and finance. They complement a range of other disciplines and offer opportunities to examine issues from multiple dimensions. It is vital for those who are consultants, advisors, managers, practitioners, executives, lawyers, policy framers to cultivate a wholesome understanding of commercial laws and their impact on various aspects of the business.

To a beginner, the sheer range of commercial laws may prove intimidating, with each one branching out to a particular specialization area. Whereas commercial laws demand strong theoretical foundations and technical prowess, it is also crucial to appreciate the interaction between corporate and commercial laws inter se and those with other disciplines. It is therefore significant that commercial laws proactively confront progressively interdisciplinary dimensions and team up within its own branches and those with others to offer a rounded understanding of complex issues.

Allegedly, young legal talent gravitates towards transaction lawyering. If so, it calls for aggressively developing corporate and commercial law scholarship and deepening and sharpening commercial law study.

Mission and Vision Statement

The sophisticated and complicated issues of the modern-day commercial world require nuanced understanding and expertise in commercial laws. This very complexity and diversity of issues involved necessitate comprehending commercial realities and problems in their totality. Yet, current commercial laws are usually engaged in a disconnected fashion. Evidently, such piecemeal analysis and examination in the academic world offer an inadequate response to an otherwise complex problem of the real world. This remoteness and disconnection between the two worlds have created a rift in policymaking and problem-solving. Centre for Corporate and Competition Law (CCCL) is an initiative to close this gap.

Our mission is to synergize corporate laws to advance a comprehensive and wholesome understanding of the commercial world. CCCL aims to attain productive interaction and cohesion in problem-solving and towards this end cultivate an intra-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary approach of research and study of commercial issues. CCCL is committed to enable critical thinking and draw meaningful connections between disciplines. CCCL focuses on legal and public policy issues in the commercial world and facilitates dialogue, deliberation, exchange and dissemination of ideas and research related thereto.
